Just as a waterfall starts as a quiet trickle, meaningful change begins by taking the first step towards the life you want. 〰️
Welcome to Cascades.
Taking the first steps towards change can be daunting, but you don’t have to navigate it alone.
At Cascades, we respect where you’ve been, honor where you’re at, and will walk beside you - with a gentle nudge perhaps - as you you create the path to where you’re headed next.
If you are feeling overwhelmed, untethered, or stuck battling your circumstances and fears- we can help you slow down, find solid footing and gain the confidence to build a life focused on what matters most to you.
We offer in person therapy in our Essex County, NJ office, as well as virtually throughout NJ.
We work with teens, emerging adults and adults experiencing
Anxiety, Worry & OCD
What ifs, worst case scenarios, or racing thoughts that won’t quit. If you’re tired of rehashing the past or anticipating the future, we can help you take back control.
Eating Disorders & Body Image
If you’re exhausted from being at war with your body, food, or the mirror - we can help you reconnect and find peace.
ADHD & Neurodivergence
If you’re tired of masking, overwhelm and feeling misunderstood, or struggling to keep up with life, we can help you understand how your brain works- and how to work with it.
Trauma
Trauma can come from a single event, but often our bodies are responding to a lifetime of systemic, cultural or familial dysfunction. We can help you get to the root of the pain and release it.
We also specialize in perfectionism, depression & self-esteem, life transitions, and first-generation immigration and cultural concerns.

What makes Cascades different?
We lead with heart and humanity, and back it up with science and skill.
Because life is nuanced, and so is therapy.
We are humans first and foremost. We’ve lived our fair share of life (we didn’t land here by accident!), we’ve done our own “work” in therapy, and we aren’t afraid to use our humanity in the therapy room.
Therapy is a vulnerable, often intimidating process. All of the science and research in the world will only take us so far if we don’t have a safe place to create meaningful, authentic connections as a foundation to dig in and do the work (research supports this, btw!). Those moments when our clients feel truly heard (perhaps for the first time), feel like we “get it,” and trust that we are “in it” with them are the best, because those are the moments that lead to some of the most profound growth and change.
You won’t get sterile, canned or impersonal treatment here. Rather, our hope is that you feel deeply understood, supported, and come to trust us enough to bring your humanity to the table, too!
Esha and Terry have over 30 years of combined experience in the mental health field, and know the science behind good therapy. We are both self proclaimed “nerds,” we love to learn, read, train and collaborate with other leaders in our field. We are endlessly passionate about the science of “what makes people tick.”
As the field continues to develop rapidly, we are continually engaging in formal and informal training and keeping up with the latest research, science and evidence-based treatments. We are also critical thinkers who know when to question and reject biased, antiquated protocols in favor of emerging research based on what actually works for people.
While it is crucial that you feel understood, therapy with us isn’t all about “venting;” rather we use evidence-based skills, strategies and techniques that together we will cater to your specific needs to support you in making actual changes and moving towards your goals.
Services that are personalized for
-

Teens
Being a teen has never been easy, but when already mounting interpersonal and academic pressures meet modern technology, social media and long term implications following the SARS-CoV-2 (covid-19) outbreak, it can be incredibly difficult. Therapy can help teens to understand and cope more effectively with their ever-changing worlds.
-

Young Adults
Emerging adulthood, or the period of time from 18 through around 29, can present unique challenges for those who are “coming of age” in today’s society. Therapy can support these young adults in navigating their independence and managing the responsibilities (and freedoms) that come with the territory.
-

Adults
Sometimes it can feel like the weight of the world is resting on our shoulders. Others it may feel like life is passing us by without our conscious involvement, or things just don’t look or feel the way we expected them to. Therapy can help to explore the areas of life that may not be working, and support you in taking action towards the things that are most important to you.
We built Cascades based on these values. We’d love to hear about yours!
-

Clarity
Get clear on what really, truly matters most to you, and start living a life in alignment with that!
-

Connection
Learn to accept (and dare we say embrace) yourself as you are, and feel more tethered to your life, to others, and to the present moment.
-

Confidence
Confidence isn’t about ego or pride, rather true confidence is about learning to trust yourself!
In-person and virtual options

“No one needs to rescue us or make us whole, for we are already whole. No one needs to fix us, for we are not broken. We simply forget our innate goodness at times. The key is to walk ourselves back home, into the light, sometimes with help from others who can walk beside us and remind us of our true selves.”
— Sheree Bliss Tilsley
